The excitement truly peaked on May 17th, 2025, when Berkan Construction Services, alongside Sugar Bay Barbados, proudly sponsored the thrilling rugby test match between Barbados and the Guyana National Men’s XVs! What a day it was at the Garrison Savannah, the historic heart of Barbados rugby and the Barbados Rugby Football Union (BRFU)!
And what a result! Barbados absolutely ran riot against Guyana, securing a fantastic 45-5 victory over the Green Machine. This convincing win was even sweeter considering Guyana had historically dominated, winning six of the previous seven official test matches against Barbados. It was a truly exhilarating performance by the home side, showing immense skill and determination.
We were particularly thrilled to cheer on our sponsored player, Simon John, alongside his equally talented brothers, Simeon and Simroy, and their cousin, Jaden Howell, all of whom are vital members of the Barbados National Men’s XVs team. It’s a fantastic showcase of local talent, and we were incredibly proud to see them represent Barbados so brilliantly.
This battle of Bridgetown was part of a larger series of regional Rugby Americas North (RAN) matches for 2025. The RAN structure itself is evolving, with changes for 2026 set to introduce a three-tier system, which will see the region included in qualifying matches for the Rugby World Cup 2027. It’s an exciting time for rugby in the Caribbean, and we’re thrilled to be part of its growth.
